A Japanese Dancer's History

Updated: Dec 5, 2019

Thank you for visiting Ami’s website. In this first blog post, I will talk more about myself. If you just want to know the basics about me, you can go to my About Page!

I started training in classical ballet at Yamada Ballet Studio almost 20 years ago and really loved it. I have performed in classical ballets such as “Swan Lake,” “The Nutcracker” and “Cinderella” at the studio. One of my favorite roles I have done is White Cat with Puss-in-Boots from “The Sleeping Beauty.”

When I was 15 years old, I participated in the ABT (American Ballet Theatre) Summer Intensive held at University of California, Irvine. This was the first time I went to California. I loved the weather, people and beaches of Southern California so much that I decided to go to a college in the area.

At my first college, MiraCosta College in Oceanside, I learned various dance styles such as ballet, modern dance, jazz and musical theater. After earning my associate degree in dance at the college, I transferred to California State University, Long Beach.

I found interest in PR when I was thinking of becoming a ballet teacher at any dance studio. I believed that earning PR skills would benefit me to have a better relationship with students and their parents and to reach out to potential students.

The more I learn about PR, the more I got into it. I hope to someday work for dance related companies as a PR professional in any country.

This fall is my last semester before graduating from undergraduate school. As an international student, I am allowed to work and gain experience for a year after graduation in the United States. Making the most of this opportunity called Optional Practical Training (OPT), I am looking for internships and entry level jobs that can start in January or February 2020 in any state.
